Platja Gran, Mar Menuda and Es Codolar beaches
Tossa’s landscape is mountainous and the proximity to the sea of the hills result in a rocky coastline, a traditional sight on the Costa Brava, with many cliffs and small coves, many of which are hard to access. Tossa de Mar has a total of 15 beaches and coves, some of them quiet and remote and other more accessible and popular.
In the town centre, at the feet of the Tossa walls, is the main beach, Platja Gran, almost 400 yds. in length. This beach is ideal to go swimming, a pleasant stroll or a nice drink at La Terraza del Diana while you enjoy the views of the walls and Vila Vella.
On the northern tip of Tossa, a 10-minute walk from the old town, is the start of the spectacular stretch of rocky coastline which goes all the way to Sant Feliu de Guíxols. This is where the other beach in Tossa is, Mar Menuda, a beach with thick sand which is 100 yds. in length. In between the rocks which surround it is a small and secluded cove called Sa Banyera de Ses Dondes.
On the other side, at the feet of Vila Vella, in the old town of Tossa de Mar, is another small beach, Es Codolar, the starting place for fishermen and passing point on the famous Camí de Ronda. Es Codolar is a small cove, of 80 yds. in length by 60 yds. in width approximately.
